Lepanam involves applying a medicinal herbal paste to the affected areas.

Various medicinal herbs are selected to match the patient’s predominant Dosha, processed into a paste and applied to the scalp for 30-45 minutes.
This is a good remedy for sleep disturbances, premature greying and other problems of the hair and scalp.
SANDHI VATHA CHIKILSA
This treatment comprises massages, Lepanam, the application of oil to the affected areas, Kizhi, a steam bath, Snehavasthi, Pizhichil, Njavarakizhi, Snehapanam and oral medicine.
Unlike modern, Western medicine, Ayurveda has very effective remedies for rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, various forms of spondylosis (stiffening of the spine), osteoporosis etc.
Pizhichil is one of the rare and special treatments in Kerala. In this treatment, warm herbal oils are continuously applied to the whole body by 2-4 therapists working in synchrony. The treatment takes 60-90 minutes and is applied daily for 7 to 21 days. Pizhichil, also known as oil bath treatment, is administered on a special massage table carved out of a single piece of wood from a Strychnine tree.
This treatment is an effective remedy for rheumatic disorders such as arthritis, tetra- or hemiplegia, various forms of paralysis, sexual impairments and disturbances of the nervous system.
In this treatment, sweating is induced by applying warm, medicinal rice pudding in cotton bags to the whole body or certain parts of the body. This treatment is carried out by 2-4 masseurs for 60-90 minutes daily over a period of 14 days.

“Siro” means “head” and “dhara” is the continuous flow of liquid. In this treatment, herbal oils, milk or buttermilk containing herbs etc. are poured onto the forehead according to a certain method for 40 minutes per day for a period of 7-21 days.
This treatment is mainly applied in cases of insomnia, memory loss, headache, mental tension and certain skin diseases.
This is also known as medicinal enema. Vasthi is a curative method in which herbal oils, plant extracts and the like are administered daily via the rectum for a period of 5-25 days.
This treatment is very effective in cases of arthritis, hemiplegia, numbness of the limbs, gastritic complaints, rheumatism and chronic constipation.
Special warm herbal oils are poured into a hat fastened to the head and allowed to act for 15-60 minutes daily – depending on the patient’s condition – for a period of 7 days.
This treatment is successful with Bell’s palsy, dryness of the nose, mouth and throat, severe headaches and other disorders in the region of the head.
In this treatment, special herbal powders are applied to the body in a synchronised massage by 2 therapists for 30-45 minutes daily for a period of 14-28 days.
This treatment is also known as “powder massage”. It is a good remedy for overweight, hemi- and tetraplegia, skin diseases, poor circulation and other Kapha disorders.
As one of the Panchakarma treatments, Nasyam is a therapy in which herbal juices, medicinal oils etc. are administered via the nose daily for a period of 14 days.
This is a particularly effective remedy for certain headaches, paralysis, mental disorders and some skin diseases.
Literally this means the oral intake of medical oils or ghee. The quantity is steadily increased in the course of treatment that usually takes 8-12 days. Snehapanam serves both as a treatment in its own right and as preparation for a course of purification.
This treatment is very effective against osteoarthritis, psoriasis, chronic constipation and haemorrhoids etc.
