At this year’s Ayurveda Conclave in Kozhikode, organized by the Kerala Tourism Department and the Ayurveda Promotion Society, Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort was honored.
In a solemn and moving ceremony, our visionary founder, Dr. Polly Mathew, was posthumously awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the development and international recognition of Ayurveda tourism.
This award honours not only an extraordinary person, but also a vision that was far ahead of its time.
When Dr. Polly Mathew laid the foundation for Somatheeram in 1989, thereby establishing India’s first Ayurveda resort, Ayurveda was still largely unknown outside of India. With deep conviction, courage, and foresight, he dedicated his life to sharing this ancient healing tradition with people from around the world.
His pioneering spirit played a key role in bringing Ayurveda to international prominence and in establishing Kerala as a leading destination for holistic travel. Under his leadership, Somatheeram became a unique place where traditional healing, nature, hospitality, and sustainable tourism come together in perfect harmony.
This recognition by the Kerala Tourism Department and the Ayurveda Promotion Society is a powerful testament to the lasting impact Dr. Polly Mathew had on the development of Ayurveda tourism.
His dedication, passion, and belief in the power of Ayurveda continue to live on at Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort to this day.
