This year, we had to bid a heartfelt farewell to a personality who shaped the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort over decades like few others.
Dr. C. A. Raman, our long-standing Chief Physician, mentor, companion, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025.
His loss fills us with deep sorrow, and at the same time with great gratitude for the extraordinary life we were privileged to share with him.
Dr. Raman’s life path was far more than a professional career. It was a calling, an inner need to help people and to live and transmit the wisdom of Ayurveda in all its depth. Introduced to traditional healing at a young age by his uncle, a respected Ayurveda physician, he embraced this vocation early on.
His journey later led him to traditional healers, renowned universities, and numerous government health projects in Kerala. His expertise and dedication made him one of the most influential voices in Ayurvedic medicine in Kerala. His appointment as the Director of Ayurveda for the Government of Kerala was a special recognition, one he accepted with great humility, yet with well-deserved pride.
For more than three decades, Dr. Raman was the heart and soul of the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort. Under his guidance and with his deep sensitivity for individual needs, many of the authentic treatment programs were developed that today form the foundation of our cure tradition. Dr. Raman was a physician who not only shared his extensive knowledge but also conveyed values: patience, compassion, connectedness, and a profound love of nature.
Guests from all over the world met him with great trust and deep appreciation. For his team, he was far more than an experienced doctor; he was a source of immeasurable knowledge and an inspiration. His work has left a legacy that extends far beyond Somatheeram. Many guests say that meeting him changed their lives.
In this difficult time, our thoughts are especially with his family. We wish them comfort, strength, and the reassurance that Dr. Raman’s light continues to shine, in the memories and hearts of all whose lives he touched.
Although we have had to say goodbye, Dr. Raman remains unforgettable. His knowledge, values, and life philosophy continue to live on at Somatheeram—in our treatments, in our understanding of Ayurveda, and in the many moments when we recall his words.
To honour his legacy together, we have created an online memorial page. We warmly invite you to share personal memories, thoughts, or words of farewell, helping to keep the memory of Dr. Raman alive:
