Vicharchica (eczema) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition characterized by itching, redness, blistering and scaling. This clinical study investigated the efficacy of modified Vijaya oil, which consists of a combination of Ayurvedic herbs, in the treatment of vicharchica.
Method
The open-label clinical trial was conducted with 40 patients aged 12 to 75 years. Patients were treated with modified Vijaya oil applied topically twice daily for a period of 30 days. The efficacy of the treatment was evaluated using the following parameters:
EASI (Eczema Area Severity Index)
SCORAD (Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis)
VAS (Visual Analogue Scale)
SIGA (Static Investigator Global Assessment)
Results
After treatment with modified Vijaya oil, there were significant improvements in several symptoms:
EASI score: reduction of 57% (from 6.58 to 2.83; p < 0.001)
SCORAD score: reduction of 66% (from 38.83 to 13; p < 0.001)
VAS score: decrease in itching intensity by 66% (from 11.92 to 4; p < 0.001)
SIGA score: decrease in severity by 50% (from 3.27 to 1.62; p < 0.001)
Patients reported a significant improvement in itching, redness, scaling and weeping lesions. In some cases, the skin already showed significant improvement after the fourth week of treatment.
The study shows that modified Vijaya oil is an effective Ayurvedic therapy option for the treatment of vicharchica (eczema). It led to a significant reduction in symptoms without serious side effects. A combination of topical and systemic therapy could further improve the efficacy.
