Erythroderma is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by extensive redness and scaling all over the body. This case study describes the successful treatment of an 18-year-old male patient with erythroderma using Ayurvedic therapeutic approaches.
Method
The patient developed erythroderma spreading over the entire body after self-administered intramuscular injection of methylprednisolone. Symptoms included:
Pyrexia (fever)
Chills and malaise
Scaly, reddish skin lesions
Weeping and itching
Nail thickening and loss
The Ayurvedic diagnosis was made as Kapala Kushtha and Audumbera Kushtha. The treatment was given for 3 months and included:
Rasamanikya (125 mg) – Twice daily
Arogyavardhini Vati (1 g) – Twice daily
Kaishora Guggulu (1 g) – Twice daily
Khadirarista (20 ml) – Twice daily
Panchatikta Ghrita (20 ml) – Twice daily
Jatyadi Taila – Applied locally 3-4 times daily
Jwarhara Kashaya (40 ml) – Twice daily
Results
Significant improvements were seen after 20 days of treatment:
Fever decreased from 102°F to 98.4°F
Blood pressure stabilized from 95/68 mmHg to 110/76 mmHg
Heart rate decreased from 115 to 74 beats/minute
Skin lesions healed, nail loss stabilized
After 3 months: Complete regression of symptoms and normalization of skin structure.
Ayurvedic treatment with Rasamanikya, Arogyavardhini Vati, Kaishora Guggulu, Khadirarista, Panchatikta Ghrita and Jatyadi Taila showed significant improvements in erythroderma and provided a safe and effective alternative to conventional therapy. Future studies are needed to further validate the long-term efficacy and optimal treatment duration.
