With great respect and deep gratitude, we had to bid farewell to Dr. Raman, who passed away in November 2025 at the age of 94. From 1995 to 2025, he shaped the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort like few others.
To describe him merely as Chief Physician would not do justice to his extraordinary life’s work. Even the title of Ayurveda Director can only begin to reflect the dedication with which he devoted himself to the healing art of Ayurveda, his “central purpose in life,” as he described it himself.
It is therefore no surprise that he was held in the highest esteem by both guests and staff, and that he leaves behind a great void.
“Ayurveda was always my passion. And my greatest goal: to preserve the authenticity of this form of treatment,” the renowned physician often said of his own work. Far beyond Somatheeram, Dr. Raman was regarded as one of the most respected figures in the field of Ayurvedic medicine.
During his three decades as Chief Physician, he influenced the lives of thousands. With great professional expertise and genuine warmth, he guided guests on their journey toward a healthier lifestyle and became an indispensable part of the Somatheeram family. His South Indian warmth was especially evident in his kind smile, not least at the reception desk of the Ayurveda hospital.
Many of today’s Ayurveda programs at Somatheeram are based on his insights. Anyone interested in the roots and possibilities of traditional Ayurveda found in him an inspiring and knowledgeable conversation partner.
Dr. Raman leaves behind a remarkable legacy, and the gratitude for his work and his tireless dedication will live on at Somatheeram and in all those who had the privilege of meeting him.
