Improving health for the well and curing illness for the ailing: these are the aims of Ayurvedic medicine – and the same applies for our doctors and therapists. Ayurveda is based on a forward-thinking strategy: preventative therapies should keep people healthy and avoid illness. This approach is also reflected in our name: Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort. On a daily basis our doctors and therapists use the extensive wealth of knowledge and experience that has been built up over more than 5000 years. They consider each patient as a unique individual. Diagnosis and treatment are made depending on each patient’s personal condition. Our success proves the validity of this approach.

Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort and "Somatheeram Ayurveda Village" are under different ownership. The resorts have significant differences. Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort is run by a German-Indian management team with many years of experience in health tourism. This can be seen most clearly when it comes to the quality of our Ayurveda treatments and in plenty of other features that are important to our guests. For instance, our doctors are specialists in Ayurvedic treatment for western clinical syndromes.
As Kerala's ambassadors for authentic Ayurveda, we are entirely dedicated to the well-being and health of our customers. And this is reflected in our customer satisfaction levels.

The international service office for the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort, namely Somatheeram GmbH which is based in Germany, provides you with an expert point of contact for any issues, either before or after your Ayurvedic treatment. You can only book the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort via this website, or through our service office or through selected specialised partners. We do not work with mass suppliers who are only interested in selling us without any personal consultation towards our guests or knowledge of our resort or Ayurvedic teaching. This is because we believe that your Ayurvedic experience must begin with an expert booking partner.

The other Somatheeram is run under Indian management and is very different from us. It has been rebranded on numerous occasions and also operates under the names: Somatheeram Ayurveda Village, Somatheeram Ayurveda Hospital & Research Institute, Somatheeram Beach Resort, Somatheeram Ayurvedic Resort, Somatheeram Group, Somatheeram Ayurveda Group, etc. .

Our promise

Somatheeram was founded by two brothers over three decades ago. Their collaboration ended in 2006. Since then, there have been two resorts with the name Somatheeram. To differentiate ourselves clearly, we have added the term 'Health" to our Somatheeram because this is the guiding principle behind everything we do. You can rely on this.

Anyone who can breathe can also do yoga. During the physical exercises (asanas), each individual will experience a direct awareness of their body. Ayurvedic cuisine

The correct diet is crucial for a healthy, fulfilling life – and it is certainly an integral part of any stay at Somatheeram. So if you want to look after your health and are hoping to lose weight and detox, you should be thinking about type-specific Ayurvedic cuisine. Of course the food we offer also includes non-Ayurvedic dishes from Europe and China.

NUTRITION PLAN

An Ayurvedic treatment regimen also sets out an appropriate diet. As part of the initial examination on arrival, the Somatheeram doctors put together a customised meal plan for every guest in accordance with their relevant individual dosha. Different varieties of fruit, freshly squeezed juices and exotic spices all ensure that there are varied and delicious options on offer.

AYURVEDIC CUISINE

The secret behind an Ayurvedic menu is its artful composition. Individual ingredients are skilfully combined taking into account their flavour, colour, consistency and mode of preparation. The food smells fantastic, stimulates the appetite and contains a harmonious blend of all six flavours, or rasas. Above all else, the Ayurvedic menu is well-balanced and wholesome in every way. All the necessary components for life are included: protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The mode of preparation and food combinations ensure that meals are light and easily digestible. Approximately 200 different Ayurvedic dishes are on offer.

NON-AYURVEDIC CUISINE

There is the option of choosing from between roughly 150 different dishes. Whether it's typical southern Indian or European or Chinese food – all the dishes are fresh, healthy and delicious.

RESTAURANT

What distinguishes the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort from other Ayurveda resorts?

Somatheeram was the first Ayurvedic resort in Kerala. The facility is run by a German and Indian management team and employs Ayurvedic doctors specialising in western clinical symptoms. We are not a destination for package holidaymakers but for interested guests from all over the world who want to experience authentic Ayurvedic therapies. Somatheeram has received many awards for the quality of its Ayurvedic treatments. Our European service office is available for expert advice regarding Somatheeram and Ayurveda both before and after your treatment. We don't know of any other Ayurveda resort offering this kind of relationship with its customers. We are passionate about the health and well-being of every single guest. That is our promise to you.

How do I know if I am booking / have booked the right Somatheeram?

Look out for our red S-logo. We operate exclusively under the name "Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort". "Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort" and other name combinations do not belong to us. Online we can be found exclusively at www.somatheeram.org. Other spellings or domain names do not belong to us. You can book with us directly or via selected agencies. We are not available via Booking.com. If in doubt, ask your booking organisation or contact us.

Why are there two Somatheerams?

Somatheeram was founded by two brothers. The Manaltheeram resort was added at a later date. In 2006 they went their separate ways due to diverging opinions about the strategic direction for the resorts. At that time, Dr. Polly Mathew was the majority owner and he continued to run the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort facility but with a much stronger emphasis on authentic Ayurveda and traditional healing powers. Since then the resort has been called "Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort". Over the intervening years it has undergone several improvements and is designed with sustainability in mind. Fair salaries are of fundamental importance to us, in the same way as we focus on a personal touch and strong team spirit. And these values do not go unnoticed by our guests.

Does Manaltheeram belong to the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort?

No, Manaltheeram has nothing to do with the Somatheeram Ayurvedic Health Resort (any longer). Prior to 2006 Manaltheeram did belong to us. Since that date, the resort has had new owners and it is now run by different management with a different concept.

How does Somatheeram ensure the quality of its services?

An experienced management team on-site makes sure that everything runs smoothly and the quality of our services is impeccable. We have implemented various quality assurance processes which are monitored by our German quality manager. The vast majority of our customers rate their treatment at the end of their stay using the "guest feedback form", which we evaluate continuously. You can rest assured: any suggestions or criticism are discussed and taken into consideration by the management team.

Do the rooms have internet access?

For successful treatment, it is important to "commit" yourself to the treatment process. In the resort we cultivate a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Disruptions should be avoided. That is why the rooms are not equipped with WiFi. However, if required, you can get free WiFi access at reception.
